Workers’ union celebrates new headquarters in Oman

Muscat: General Union of Workers of the Sultanate yesterday celebrated the opening of its permanent headquarters and investment building in Ghala in the Governorate of Muscat, coinciding with the celebration of International Workers’ Day on the May 1, each year. Gen. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Nu’mani, Minister of the Royal Office patronised over the opening ceremony.
He congratulated all members of the General Union of Workers of Oman for the opening of their headquarters, which has been built as per the Royal Directives of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said to coincide with the International Workers’ Day on May 1. He explained that these efforts would have a positive impact, especially since dialogue between the government, employers and workers have paid off, and this policy is considered successful and would be followed in the future.
He stressed that there is great care and attention accorded by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said to the Sultanate’s workers, as well as workers in the private sector, and plans are being implemented on the ground.
He explained that there are good results for the Sultanate after it experienced the impact of dipping oil prices. In view of the ambitious plans that have led to stability, the Sultanate will remain an oasis of safety and security by the will of Allah Almighty.
The opening ceremony included a documentary film about the beginnings of the union, its permanent headquarters and granting of awards to workers in various trade unions, sectoral trade union, representatives of trade unions and labour unions, government agencies supporting the trade unions. The eldest female and male workers in the private sector and sponsoring companies were honoured on the occasion.
The ceremony was attended by ministers, honourable members of the State Council, undersecretaries, officials from government and private sector, representatives of trade unions and labour unions.
