Muscat: Dar Al Atta’a is encouraging children to pick up a book by announcing a Summer Reading Challenge as part of the ‘Let’s Read’ programme.
In 2007, Dar Al Atta’a Association launched the ‘Let’s Read Campaign’ aiming to reintroduce the love of reading to children in a time where electronic gadgets are taking over from books as a favourite pastime. The campaign proved so successful that in 2015 the association promoted it to a main programme, the ‘Let’s Read’ programme.
This time, students are invited to participate in the Summer Reading Challenge by reading and writing book reviews in both English and Arabic. All the participants need to do is read as many books as they can over the summer holidays and then write book reviews of not more than 500 words.
According to programme officials, children should complete their book reviews before the end of August 2019, along with an outline of the book and a colourful illustration.
“Submit your book reviews to the Let’s Read Book Shop, 3rd floor, Oman Avenues Mall by Saturday, August 31st, 2019,” the statement from Let’s Read Programme read. “Make sure you include the title and author’s name, a synopsis of the story (what’s it about?), why you liked the book and a colourful illustration.”
Officials asked those who submitted reviews to make sure to include name, age and contact details. “The best entries will be displayed in the shop.
