Muscat: The Embassy of the United States of America in Oman has held a ceremony celebrating 230 years of the US State Department on Saturday.
The ceremony was held in the presence of Stephanie L Hallett, the embassy’s Deputy Chief of Mission, and a statement from the US Embassy said, “Today marks the 230th anniversary of the U.S. Department of State. Hallett and all of us at the U.S. Embassy in Muscat are proud to celebrate this milestone and be part of the State Department’s diplomatic efforts to strengthen our global partnerships and alliances.”
Morgan Ortagus, department spokeswoman for the US Department of State said, “A full 230 years ago, on July 27th, 1789, our founding fathers approved legislation establishing the Department of State as our nation’s first Executive Branch department. Today, our great team continues to work tirelessly to lead American diplomacy and to protect American citizens worldwide.”
The US State Department will hold a celebratory event on Monday. “We will celebrate this anniversary on Monday, July 29th. In addition to remarks by Secretary Pompeo, we are honoured to be joined by former Secretary of State, Dr Henry Kissinger, who will share his remembrances and conversation with his official biographer, Dr. Niall Ferguson. As we celebrate 230 years since our founding, we look forward to continuing our proud legacy of service to this great nation in the centuries ahead,” Morgan Ortagus said.
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in an earlier tweet said, “Proud to work with this team every day to make the world safer and America stronger.”
