Brasilia: Brazil's President Jair Bolsonaro confirmed on Thursday that he is considering offering his son, federal representative Eduardo Bolsonaro, the post of ambassador to the United States.
"It's something I have on my radar now, yes. He is friends with Trump's children, he speaks English, Spanish, has a lot of experience around the world, and, the way I see it, could be the right person for the job in Washington", the president told members of the press.
The appointment would need to be approved by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee before being passed to the full upper house for confirmation.
Eduardo Bolsonaro said he would be willing to leave the Congress to take the position of ambassador to the United States.
Though he currently serves as the head of the House of Representatives' Foreign Relations Committee, the younger Bolsonaro has never worked as a diplomat.
The Brazilian embassy in Washington has been without an ambassador since April, when Bolsonaro transferred the previous ambassador to the foreign ministry back in Brazil.
