Oman receives over a million visitors

Muscat: More than a million visitors came to Oman until the end of May, new government data has revealed.
According to the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), until the end of May 2019, 1.4 million visitors came to the Sultanate, of which 478,471 were from the neighbouring Gulf Cooperation Council nations.
Oman is one of the members of the six-nation GCC. The other five are the United Arab Emirates, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar and Bahrain. In addition, a further 161,174 came from India, 100,673 from Germany, 80,608 from Britain and 44,949 from Italy.
In May 2019 alone, 199,000 people visited the Sultanate, pointing to an increase of 18.2 per cent in terms of inbound visitors, compared to the same month during the previous year.
Statistics also revealed that guests who stayed in three to five-star star hotels until the month of May 2019 were 756,000.
Revenues
This resulted in a revenue of OMR8.8 million from these hotels during May 2019. However, compared to the revenues in May 2018, this revenue indicates a decrease of 24.7 per cent.
There was also a decrease in the number of guests in hotels during May 2019, compared to the same period last year.
According to statistics from the Tourism Index report, about 73,000 guests stayed in hotels during May 2019 while 84,000 guests stayed during the same month in 2018.
