Rain hits parts of Oman, people told to avoid the wadis as more expected

Muscat: Heavy to moderate rain lashed different parts of the Sultanate on Sunday.
Musandam and parts of Al Batinah Governorate experienced rains on Sunday, according to the Public Authority for Civil Aviation (PACA).
Towards the evening rain was reported from parts of Muscat as well.
“We are expecting more rain in the next couple of days in several parts of Northern Oman, including Muscat,” said an official at the National Multi Hazard Early Warning Centre of Oman Meteorology Department.
He also said temperatures are likely to fall due to cloud formation and rain. “In some parts, they may drop by 1 to 2 degrees Celsius,” he said.
Oman’s rescue and emergency service authority has asked the public not to risk their lives and the lives of those accompanying them by driving in the wadis.
This came after the PACA issued a weather report, which forecast rains and the occasional thundershowers along the northern parts of the Sultanate starting Sunday, February 3, until Wednesday, February 6.
Videos of heavily flowing wadis were shared across social media, including one in wilayat Bakah in Musandam, shared by the Musandam municipal authorities.
In an online statement, the Public Authority for Civil Defence and Ambulance (PACDA) said, “The Sultanate will be affected by a trough of low-pressure system starting from Sunday until Wednesday evening. We call upon citizens and residents to abide by the rules and not cross wadis, to stay away from electric poles and to lock down loose objects.”
In a statement online, PACA said, “The flow and spread of rain clouds along the coasts of Musandam Governorate led to isolated rain and low clouds, and also spread over the governorates of North and South Al Sharqiyah and parts of Al Dakhiliyah and South Batinah with a chance of a thundershower in Al Hajar Mountain.”
The Musandam sea and Oman sea are expected to be moderate to rough with waves reaching a high of 2.5m.
“The weather is expected to be cloudy to partly cloudy over the governorates of Muscat, Musandam, Al Buraimi, Al Dhahirah, North Batinah, South Batinah, Al Dakhiliyah, North Al Sharqiyah, and South Al Sharqiyah. There are also chances of isolated rain and occasional thundershowers associated with fresh wind and hail,” PACA added.
