Muscat: Now customers can find out how efficient their air conditioner is before purchasing, according to a new label system developed by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
The Ministry has launched an electronic system for issuing energy efficiency labels for air conditioners.
Through this system, a sticker will be placed on the air conditioner. This sticker gives an idea of the electricity consumption, in comparison with other such machines through a star rating system.
The higher the number of starts, the more efficient the air conditioner is, in terms of electricity consumption.
These labels can be placed on single unit type or window ACs or split ACs with two units connected without pipes.
This helps customers in choosing the best equipment that consumes the least electricity and delivers high quality performance. Consumers can also see a reduction in their monthly bills by opting for a higher rated air conditioner.
Khamis Al Farisi, Director General of Standards and Metrology at the Ministry, said that the ministry has started operating the Omani system to issue energy efficiency labels for air conditioners recently. A number of energy efficiency labels have already been issued for a number of companies. For information about these cards and to apply electronically, the companies working in the area of air conditioners can log on to http://dgsm.gso.org.sa/eer.
From the environmental aspect, the label is also aimed at reducing electronic and electrical waste, CO2 emissions and less energy consumption.
