The venerable Muttrah Fort

Built by the Portuguese in the 1850s, it features traditional Omani design elements.

It has three towers, the largest among these sits at the summit while the other two occupy points west and north of it.

In the old days, Muttrah was the center of commerce in Oman as well as a major fishing port.

Muttrah Fort is open for visitors, Saturday to Thursday from 9am to 4pm, on Fridays from 8am to 11am and 2pm to 4pm.
