Muscat: An unlicensed cooking place in Muscat, where food was being cooked and distributed among workers of different companies, was raided by Muscat Municipality officials.
“The food was prepared under unhygienic conditions and distributed to expatriate workers commercially without possessing any licence,” the authority posted on its official Facebook page.
“They were not following any norms set by the authority for preparing food and distributing the same commercially,” the authority post added.
Last October also, a similar raid was carried out in Amerat and an expatriate cook was arrested by Muscat Municipality officials.
Recently, as part of its campaign to protect the health and safety of consumers and residents, the authority had also cleared a number of areas along the seaside in Bausher where vendors were illegally selling Omani grilled meat, known as mashakeek.
Last December, surprise inspections by the Muscat Municipality at 125 restaurants in Bausher had found that around 53 restaurants were not meeting the food safety standards and were violating rules formulated by the municipality.
