India beat Bangladesh in Cricket World Cup

Birmingham: India beat Bangladesh in the group stages of the 2019 Crickets World Cup to all but seal progress to the semi finals of the tournament.

India put up a total of 314/9 from their 50 overs, but Bangladesh pushed them all the way, before being bowled out for 286 in 48 overs.

Batting first, India's openers began well. KL Rahul contributed 77 runs from 92 deliveries in an innings that featured a six and six fours, while his partner Rohit Sharma top scored for India to set a solid base for the men in blue.

He scored 104 runs from 92 balls, as he plundered seven fours and five sixes.

However, the Indians failed to build on that strong start. Captain Virat Kohli was dismissed for 26 by Mustafizur Rahman and the bowler would go on to take the wickets of both MS Dhoni (35) and Hardik Pandya (0). He also eliminated Dinesh Karthik for just eight.

Rishabh Pant helped bring some stability to the Indian innings with a polished 48 but he too was dismissed, this time by Shakib Al Hassan.

In response, Tamim Iqbal (22) and Soumya Sarkar (33) were dismissed by Mohammed Shami and Hardik Pandya, but seasoned batsman Shakib Al Hassan gave Bangladesh the impetus they needed when he chipped in with a composed 66.

However, the wickets continued to tumble around him as Mustafizur, Liton Das and Mosaddek Hossain all returned to the pavilion having contributed but a few runs.

Sabbir Rahman (36) provided stubborn resistance in the lower order but he could only prolongue the inevitable as India ran out eventual winners.

For India, Yuzavendra Chahal took one wicket for 50 runs from his 10 overs. Hardik Pandya took three wickets. Jasprit Bumrah plundered four wickets as he removed both tailenders.

India's next game is against Sri Lanka, while Bangladesh play Pakistan.
