Thousands of tourists travel through Oman during Eid

Muscat: Tourists from foreign countries as wells as locals flocked to the country’s tourism hotpsots during the Eid Holidays, according to the Ministry of Tourism.
The most visited locations mentioned by the Ministry was Jabal al Akhdar with more than 11,241 visitors, followed by Wadi Bani Khalid with over 5,584 visitors and Musandam with more than 2,364 guests over the period.
Most of the tourists decided to visit Al Jabal Al Akhdar, where its Mediterranean climate has made it famous as a summer retreat and a chance to visit the beautiful plateaus which have been carved out of the mountain.
A statement by the Ministry of Tourism read, “Al Jabal Al Akhdar received a total of 11,241 visitors during the Eid Al Fitr holidays.”
Furthermore, 5,000 people visited tourist sites in the famous Wadi Bani Khalid and Ras Al Jinz tourist sites in the Al Sharqiyah Governorate on Thursday and Friday.
The Ministry said in an online statement, "3,413 people visited the site of water ponds in Wilayat of Wadi Bani Khalid on Thursday, during the second day of Eid."
On Friday, “2,171 tourists visited the site of water ponds.”
Many tourists also visited Musandam, where the mountains jut out from the ocean in naturally geometric shapes and visitors can take peaceful sea tours.
According to the Ministry, 2,204 visitors went to Debba Port in Musandam on Thursday and Friday in order to experience the Omani waters around the governorate, while 160 tourists visited the historic Khasab castle, which Omanis had built in the seventeeth century atop the ruins of a Portuguese castle.
Wadi Shab also saw an active influx of tourists who escaped the city for retreats during Wednesday and Thursday, the Ministry added.
Over 700 visitors, from different nationalities, visited the scientific centre of the turtle reserve in Ras Al Jinz in South Sharqiyah Governorate during the second day of Eid Al Fitr, to enjoy watching turtles and participate in the centre’s various programmes that acquaint visitors to natural life in the reserve.
Some tourists even arrived in Oman on cruise ships after the end of the cruise season to enjoy Oman’s Eid holidays.
On the first day of Eid, 2,307 tourists arrived at Sultan Qaboos Port on the Indian cruise ship Karnika, according to a statement by the Ministry of Tourism.
The ministry held a number of Eid events to gather people together and provide them with a chance to celebrate Eid tourism, as well as to promote local craftsmen and businesses. These included events in Nizwa, Ibri, and Salalah.
