Duterte declares June 5 as Eid Al Fitr holiday in the Philippines

Muscat: President Rodrigo Duterte of the Philippines has declared June 5 a regular holiday in observance of Eid Al Fitr.

The date was chosen on the recommendation of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos. Duterte, in Proclamation 729, stated that it was important to bring Eid Al Fitr "to the fore of national consciousness."

"The entire Filipino nation should have the full opportunity to join their Muslim brothers and sisters in peace and harmony in observance of Eid Al Fitr," part of his proclamation read.
