MUSCAT: Michael XI and Asfandyar XI registered exciting victories as Pakistan Social Club Oman’s 35 th Ramadan Cricket Tournament 2019 kicked off at the Muscat Club’s floodlit grassy ground in Wadi Kabir.
The tournament was inaugurated by the chief guest Muhammed Nadeem Azeemi, Chairman of Sohar Poly Industries, and the guest of honour Sayyid Fayyaz Ali.
Shah, Chairman of Syed Fayyaz Group, in the presence of top PSC management led by its Chairman Mian Muhammed Munir, Oman Cricket Board Member Dad Mohammed A Balushi, Pakistan Embassy official, leading businessmen, dignitaries and a large number of cricket fans.
The PSC has invited former Pakistan Test cricketer Abdur Razzaq as the special guest for the final, which will be held on May 27. Presented by Bank Muscat, the tournament is sponsored by Sohar Poly Industries, Mohammed Riaz Group, Khursheed Trading, Starslight, Stones World and others.
On the cricket field, Irfan of Michael XI was instrumental in his team beating ISWK by 18 runs. Invited to bat first, Michal XI scored 86 for 6 in 8 overs thanks to major contribution from Akbar (29) and Irfan (28).
ISWK was then restricted to only 68 for 7 as Michael XI bowled tight for a well- deserved victory. Sidhu and Sharath claimed two wickets each while Irfan picked up one. In the other match, hat-trick hero Asghar bowled Asfandyar XI to a comfortable win against OCT Muscat by 49 runs.
Asfandyar XI posted a big 108 for 6 on the board in 8 overs. Irfan topscored with a strokeful 45 while Mohsin chipped in with a quickfire 19.
Facing a big target, OCT Muscat was rocked by Asghar’s hat-trick and could manage only 52 for 4 in 8 overs. Shoaib (20) and Aziz (14) were the only notable scorers. In its 35 th edition this year, Ramadan Cricket Tournament is the oldest and largest softball cricket competition in Oman which combines cricket with delectable Pakistani cuisine in the form of food stalls at the venue. Attractive prizes throughout the tournament add to the excitement witnessed by hundreds of fans every day.
