Muscat: A large quantity of smuggled tobacco, including 400 bags of chewing tobacco, was seized by the Public Authority for Consumer Protection (PACP) in Rustaq.

According to PACP officials, the illegal tobacco was seized at a men's tailor shop.

In an online statement, the consumer protection watchdog said, “The Directorate General of PACP in Rustaq confiscated 400 bags of chewable tobacco and smuggled tobacco. This came as part of the Department's efforts to protect the consumer from all the harms that pose threat to his health and safety.”

It added, “The details of the incident dated back when the PACP received a report about an expatriate working at a men's tailor shop in Rustaq selling banned tobacco. After checking and proving the evidence, the inspectors visited the shop to inspect it. 400 packets of banned cigarettes were confiscated.”
