Awasr to provide fixed landline services with international call facility in Oman

Muscat: Oman's superfast broadband service provider Awasr will provide fixed landline services in Oman with international call facility as it has got its license upgraded to Class 1 category by Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), a statement from the company said.
According to a top official at Awasr, the company has already begun working with their partners and the authorities to build a fixed landline infrastructure in Oman.
“We will deliver top-notch services at highly competitive and affordable prices to everyone, especially since affordability is one of Awasr’s core principles aiming to achieve sustainable development in the Sultanate,” Issam Al Ismaili, head of marketing at Awasr, said.
Meanwhile, the company statement added that in addition to the fixed line service, it will also be able to build a robust and advanced dedicated network, capable of delivering high-speed fiber-optic internet of up to 1 Gbps.
According to an official from the company, there is no need to have a fixed land line to have the high-speed internet access.
“With Awasr, you do not need to have a fixed land line to have internet access, we provide our services over fiber optic that is data specific and we provide internet services over the fiber network. As long as you are within our coverage area, you can get our high speed internet service,” the official said.
“The fixed line service is also through fiber optic,” the official added.
Meanwhile, Mohamad El Madhoun, commercial adviser at Awasr, said that they were keen on meeting all the Class 1 licence requirements, which reflects their continued commitment towards improving lifestyles and developing the Omani business environment, through delivering high-speed fiber-optic internet to both locals and expats across the Sultanate.
With the new licence, Awasr will build network infrastructure in Muscat and the northern region, including Al Batinah North, Al Batinah South, Al Dhahirah and Al Buraimi governorates and in the southern region, Al Dakhiliya, Al Sharqiyah North, Al Sharqiyah South, Dhofar and Al Wusta governorates will be covered.
“Awasr will also build an International Gateway to provide high-end international telecommunications services,” the statement added.
Its services currently cover the regions of Al Khoud, Al Mawaleh, Al Hail, Maabilah and Shatti Al Qurum as a first phase.
Awasr officially launched its services early last month.
