Cyclone Fani: Flight operations resume at Kolkata and Bhubaneswar airports

Muscat: As cyclone ‘Fani’ moved away, flight operations resumed at Kolkata and Bhubaneswar airports on Saturday.
With what is said to be one of India's strongest tropical cyclone in recent times, Cyclone Fani made landfall in Odisha state on Friday morning.
Following the cyclone, Kolkata and Bhubaneswar airports were closed down.
There are no direct flights operating from Muscat International Airport to Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar in Odisha or to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport in India.
However, passengers travelling to these cities fly via Doha, Dubai or change port at Indian cities like Delhi or Mumbai.
Passengers to these cities from Oman have been affected by airport closures in India after cyclone Fani hit the east coast of India on Friday.
Indian carriers and UAE airlines have confirmed the cancellations of flights to and from Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata in West Bengal on Friday.
“After the devastating effects of Cyclone Fani, all foreign objects and debris from the operational area have been cleaned up and Bhubaneswar airport has resumed normal commercial flight operations since 1230 IST today,” Ministry of Civil Aviation in India.
“Based on latest weather update flight operations resumed at Kolkata Airport today at 0800 IST today. Passengers are advised to kindly check with the concerned airlines for any changes in the flight timings,” the Kolkata Airport tweeted on Saturday.
