Teacher to mark special Iran day with swim across Hormuz Strait

Muscat: An Iranian teacher plans to swim from Khasab in Oman to Bandar Abbas in Iran to mark a special day on the Iranian calendar.
Mohammed Amiri Roodan, who enjoys adventure sports, plans to swim from Khasab Harbour to Bandar Abbas across the Strait of Hormuz to mark this day.
A spokesman of the Iranian Embassy in Muscat told Times of Oman: “Mohammed Amiri Roodan is a teacher, and has celebrated this date every year through sports feats, and to commemorate this year, he has planned to swim across the Strait of Hormuz.”
Roodan has undertaken long distance swimming and cycling tours in the past, and claims to have patented the Roodan Sikel, an amphibious bicycle, in Iran.
The distance from Khasab to Bandar Abbas, as the crow flies, is about 65 nautical miles, or slightly more than 120 kilometres.
The cities lie on either side of the Strait of Hormuz, through which about 25 per cent of the world’s fuel resources pass.
Khasab is the capital of Governorate of Musandam, which gives the Sultanate joint control of the strait alongside Iran.
