#OmanPride: Omani toddler takes to professional karting with ease

Muscat: A four-year-old riding a 50cc kart and negotiating difficult curves like an experienced professional is a mesmerising sight. Today, the Times of Oman (TOO) is featuring Adam Awan, the youngest Omani Karter in its #OmanPride campaign.
“I enjoy riding the karts. It is fun,” Adam, told TOO.
According to his father, Imran Awan, Adma has enjoyed driving and riding anything on wheels from his early days.
Adam was introduced to karting at the age of three through a two-seater kart, which accommodated his parent and when he was three and half years or so, he started driving solo. “Adam showed an interest in toy cars before he could even walk on his own. That is when my wife and I decided to explore his passion,” Awan said.
“We brought him to the karting track when he turned three, and drove him in a two-seater kart. We saw a smile on his face. We were sure that he would pick it from there,” Awan added.
Adam started with reduced power on the kart, extreme minimum power and he would drive around the track alone until he got used to it.
When Adam started driving the kart, his father controlled it with a tow-hook tied to its rear. He ran behind the kart with the rein until Adam became familiar with the acceleration and breaking systems.

Today, he drives at a good speed. He also drives with other children during practice session within the same category of karts. Adam practices at the Oman Automobile Association Kart Track.
The credit for his karting skills goes to his mother and father, who made the effort to groom Adam’s precocious talent. Awan thanked the staff of the Oman Automobile Association for the facility and for the great support they offer in grooming the talent of Adam.
Even though Adam is a good professional, he will not be able to participate in any competitions until he turns five.
“Adam cannot participate in Oman Automobile Association organized events until he turns five,” his father said.
He drives in a controlled environment on the track with all safety measures, such as a helmet, racing suit, gloves, race shoes, face mask, neck brace and his kart is inspected before every drive.
“He is continuously being advised on all safety tips before driving and reminded of the rules of the track. This is for his safety and for others,” Awan stated. Adam is a kindergarten 1 student at the Seeb International School, who is fond of cars, action heroes etc.
If he continues like this, you could be hearing a lot more about Adam Awan in the years to come.
