Muscat: Bank Muscat, the flagship financial services provider in the Sultanate, in line with its vision ‘To serve you better, everyday’ and commitment to supporting Omani youth and promoting sustainable development, was honoured recently at the sixth edition of Oman’s Sports Oscar Awards.
The event was organised by the Oman Sports Media committee under the supervision of the Oman Journalists Association and was held under the auspices of Abdulmunim bin Mansour Al Hasani, Minister of Information, in the presence of dignitaries and senior officials.
Bank Muscat was honoured for its leading role in partnering with different sports associations as well as supporting and developing Oman’s sporting infrastructure, in particular, the Green Sports initiative that was launched in 2012 to support Omani youth and promote Oman as a sporting nation.
Bank Muscat’s Green Sports initiative aims at promoting Oman as a sporting nation by greening and developing football fields and has benefited a total of 93 sports teams across the country to date. The programme has spread across the entire nation, reinforcing the bank’s leadership role in social responsibility. Marking the 8th year of the unique CSR initiative, the Bank is supporting the development of 15 football fields across the Sultanate in 2019.
The scope of Green Sports support for sports teams includes greening of football fields with natural or synthetic turf, floodlights or water desalination equipment in areas facing problems of water salinity. Ensuring wider representation, the Green Sports support is extended to develop sustainable sports infrastructure in all parts of the Sultanate. As the nation’s leading financial institution, Bank Muscat aims to provide Omani youth with motivation to excel in all arenas and thereby contribute to the development and progress of the Sultanate.
The bank also supports a number of sports associations and events like traditional shooting competitions and camel racing, which promote Oman’s rich heritage and traditions. Bank Muscat’s support for such events helps the further development of the country as a top tourist destination and thereby promotes its tourism potential in a manner that complements government efforts in preserving and showcasing the Sultanate’s rich heritage and culture.
Bank Muscat’s commitment to partnership in sustainable development is making headway with several strategic corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes covering key segments such as youth, sports, education and SMEs. The sustainability and CSR strategy pursued by the bank is focused on long-term benefits to the community and the nation. All CSR programmes draw from the bank’s values of leadership and partnership, creating a positive impact on society.
