More than 25,000 Haj applications from Oman in 2019

Muscat: Over 25,000 people have applied for Haj in 2019, according to the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs.

A statement by the Ministry read, "The ministry received a total of 25,680 applications this season, until 22 March 2019."

1,790 of the applications came from expats, with 1,166 applications coming from Arab expats and 624 applications coming from non-Arab expats. Omanis had made 23,890 of the applications, and the highest number of applications came from the Governorate of Al Dakhiliya at 4,634 applications, followed by North Al Batinah at 4,238 applications and Muscat at 3,431 applications.

The lowest numbers of applications were in the Governorates of Musandam (163 applications), Al Wusta (176), and Al Buraimi at (442).

Most Haj applications among Omanis were due to reasons of religious obligations at 17,932 applications, followed by 5,275 applications from volunteers who wanted to help others and provide services during haj, and 486 applications by participants who wanted to go in place of a loved one who passed away.
