Training programme on sustainability reporting held

Muscat: Oman Centre for Governance and Sustainability (OCGS) organised a training programme on preparation of sustainability report on Wednesday and Thursday last week.
The event was presented by Dima Al Ashtar of Sustainable Square and attended by participants from Oman Oil Company, Credit Oman, Oman Cement, Muscat Desalination and Bank Muscat.
Zainab Al Lawati, Sustainability Specialist at OCGS and supervisor of the programme said that OCGS in conducting series of training programmes and workshops during the year coping with OCGS’s plan to disseminate and consolidate sustainability concept and culture in private and public institutions.
Dima Al Asram said: “Disclosure of sustainability plans and programmes avails opportunity to develop internal mechanisms and building strong relationships with the local community and stakeholders and provide for greater investments by the investors who are looking for sustainable investment with constructive impact on the community and the environment further to attaining financial return.”
She added the programme is presented according to Global Reporting Initiative to acquaint the participants with the steps adopted in preparing the report which contributes to displaying the initiatives and contribution of the companies and institutions in the three sides of sustainability which comprise the environment, community and the economy. Such reports enhance the value of the company brand and its ability to manage risks and crises.
The programme commenced with global and local examples in the application of sustainability programs followed by review of the frame and resources required for preparation of reports and then the first phase of preparing the reports which include planning for preparation of the report by organising the following phases and developing a work plan, timetable and identification of responsibilities, involved parties and the budge for preparation of the report.
OSGS will hold more training programmes and workshops during the year to enhance sustainability and governance in the private and public sector.
