Champions League quarter-finals: Barcelona to play Man United, Juventus draw Ajax

Muscat: Lionel Messi and FC Barcelona will face Manchester United in what will be the pick of the four Champions League quarter-final games.

The draw for the quarters of UEFA’s most prestigious club tournament will also see an all-English affair when Premier League champions Manchester City take on Tottenham Hotspur. Meanwhile, fellow Premier League title contenders Liverpool will play Portuguese giants FC Porto.

For their reward in felling defending European champions Real Madrid, Ajax Amsterdam will take on Juventus, who are among the favourites to lift the trophy later this season.

All three English teams are in action on Tuesday, 9 April: Spurs are expected to play Manchester City at their newly-renovated stadium, with Porto travelling to Anfield to face Liverpool. On the 10th, Manchester United will have home advantage against Barcelona, while Ajax welcome Juventus to the Dutch capital.

In the Europa League, Arsenal have by far the toughest tie of the quarter-finals, when they take on Napoli. The Gunners play their Italian opponents at the Emirates Stadium on Thursday, 11 April, before travelling to the San Paolo on the 18th.

On the same days, Chelsea will play Czech outfit Slavia Praha, while Portuguese side SL Benfica take on Germans Eintracht Frankfurt. An all-Spanish affair will also see Villarreal play Valencia.
