Things you didn’t know about refrigerators

Almost every household has a refrigerator. But how much do you know about this appliance other than it keeps things cold and prolongs food shelf life? Well, there's much more you can learn. For instance, the lifespan of a refrigerator is between 14 and 17 years, but you may take it to refrigerator repair severally before it becomes unproductive. Here are things you didn’t know about refrigerators.
May account for up to 10% of your energy bills
The refrigerator is the only appliance in the house which is not allowed to stop working. If that happens, everything goes haywire. It ensures foods last longer, keeps our ice cream in good condition, and maintains moisture content in fruits and the likes. It, therefore, may be the largest sole energy consumer in the house with up to 10% of the total bill. So now you know. But there are certain things you can do to reduce your energy bills. Also, if your energy surpasses this percentage, then there could be some inefficiencies and you need to take it to refrigerator repair.
The fuller it is, the better
What you didn’t know is that the refrigerator is more efficient when it's full than when it's empty. Some people may say that when it's empty, it consumes less energy as there aren't a lot of things to keep cold. However, when it's 80% full, the foodstuff stores the cold and it's easier for the low temperatures to be maintained even when it's opened regularly. However, don’t overstuff it as it may lead to blockage of air currents and warm spots.
Keep the temperature between 0 and 4 degrees
The optimal temperature for your refrigerator is about 0-4 degrees Celsius or 33 to 40 degrees Fahrenheit. This way, it's low enough to prevent spoiling food but high enough to prevent them from freezing. You can buy a thermometer to check the temperature. If you find your refrigerator is not able to maintain low temperatures, and then have it checked up by refrigerator repair services.
