Muscat: More than 13,500 pilgrims, the vast majority of them Omani, will perform Haj this year, but the figure is down from last year.
According to the Oman Pilgrims E-Registration System, Oman’s shares for 2019 are divided into “a quota of 13,098 Omanis” and 500 places for expatriates for the Hijri year 1,440, corresponding to 2019.
More than 6,000 persons had already submitted Haj requests at the system using www.hajj.om till the time of printing.
This year’s share is slightly lower than the 14,000 allowed for 2018.
According to the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs, registrations can be processed through the website and will allow three direct forms of registration.
The first uses the civil number, the second is through a mobile number, and the third is through directly reading the ID card if the user’s phone and ID card are supporting by the PKI system.
The ministry added that applicants must be at least 18 years old.
If a male applicant is older than 67 or a female applicant is older than 65, he or she can have a partner to aid them through the pilgrimage.
If younger, persons with visual or mobility disabilities can also have a companion. Women can also choose a companion from those already pre-registered in the system.
“Those registering for Haj must choose from five types of pilgrims: Farth (Obligation); Farth for cancer patients; fulfilling the will of a deceased person (this requires an approved will); volunteer work and completing the pilgrim for someone who cannot perform the pilgrim ( this requires a document in Arabic from the Ministry of Health)” added the ministry.
