Muscat: Pakistan School Seeb (PSS) held a week-long dengue awareness campaign for students, their families and teachers on measures to prevent dengue.
The awareness campaign at the school was observed by over 1,000 children, after a number of dengue cases were found in Seeb.
In this regard, the Ministry of Health and Muscat Municipality also organised a campaign for two weeks for the elimination of the Aedes aegypti mosquito starting on January 8, 2019.
The areas covered by the authorities included the wilayats of Seeb, Bausher, Muttrah and Muscat.
Munazza Ghafoor, Principal at PSS, took the initiative to raise awareness among the students enrolled at the school and distributed circulars in classes to give general information over the issue.
Moreover, tabloids and short plays were presented daily during morning assemblies, which became a great form of information transfer. Among the detailed presentations, quizzes and other activities, the staff and students also actively participated in an awareness walk that was held at the school.
Disseminating critical information pertaining to the transmission of the disease, prevention by identifying potential sites harbouring the larvae and destroying these sites was the main objective of the campaign.
The principal of the school also emphasised the need to keep oneself clean and asked students to follow this rule as it could help defeat dengue rather easily. She appreciated the efforts of all the teachers and students who made the week-long exercise a success and hoped that everyone would take necessary steps proactively whether in school or in their vicinity to prevent dengue.
