Meet the ROP’s new ‘little policemen’

Muscat: Officers from the Royal Oman Police assigned their own ‘little policemen’ to a nursery school in Qurum, with the view to increase safety awareness among children.

A spokesman from the ROP said, “The team from the Little Policeman magazine visited Al-Shomukh Nursery in Al-Qurum and talked with children about the rules of safety while riding a school bus, as well as the safety rules that needed to be followed at home and during play. The children also wore the police uniforms and were distributed copies of the Little Policeman magazine to the children.”

This is the latest attempt by the Royal Oman Police to increase awareness on safety and proper preparedness among young children and students. During the Muscat Festival, the ROP held several briefing and interactive programmes with parents and children.

“The little policeman invited his friends to visit him in the amusement parks and entertainment, within the activities of the Muscat Festival 2019,” said the ROP, which also conducted many awareness drills in the first and second weeks of February, which was when young Omani children returned to school after the holidays.

“Be careful about the safety of the students while boarding and coming down from the bus and make sure the bus is free from students when they are delivered to and from school,” said the police, adding to the parents, “Be sure to instil the correct behaviour of your children with regard to school systems and to follow them and guide them first, and urge them to choose the right partners and be of help to them.”

“Be sure to abide by traffic rules and ensure that pedestrian crossings are free of pedestrians, especially those that are close to schools, the safety of children is everyone's responsibility.”

The police will also set up an awareness stall at the Muscat International Book Fair. An ROP official said, “The Sultan Qaboos Academy of Police Sciences is preparing to participate in the twenty-fourth edition of the Muscat International Book Fair, as it is keen to publicise its scientific publications and demonstrate its community role in spreading legal and police awareness among all segments of society.”
