Oman Under-19 cricket team honoured

MUSCAT: Oman Cricket (OC) honoured the triumphant Oman Under-19 team in a ceremony presided over by Kanak Khimji, OC Chairman, at Oman Cricket Academy in Amerat.
Oman and Kuwait were declared joint winners of the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier Asia Division Two in Bangkok after the final ended in a tie in December 2018.
The felicitation ceremony, attended by senior Oman Cricket officials, including Madhu Jesrani, Oman Cricket Secretary, and Duleep Mendis, Chief Development Officer, saw the team captain Prathamesh Kumble present the winner’s trophy to the OC Chairman.
Commending the team’s remarkable achievement, Oman Cricket gave away cash prizes to the team and encouraged the players to focus on their form and fitness to achieve more glory for the country in future assignments.
Oman team remained unconquered throughout the 10-team tournament that also had Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia, China, Qatar, Bahrain, Thailand, Bhutan and Maldives.
Both Oman and Kuwait will now join UAE, Nepal, Malaysia and Singapore in Asia Division One qualifier in 2019 whose winner, along with Division One champions of Europe, Africa, Americas and EAP, will qualify for the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2020 in South Africa. A total of 50 teams are part of the qualification process in the regional qualifiers.
