Cricket: Baadal, Jatinder power Muscat to emphatic win

MUSCAT: Two Muscat CT Singhs, Baadal and Jatinder, played like kings and powered their team to an exciting 5-wicket victory against Passage to India (PTI) in a Premier League T20 clash at OC Turf 1 in Amerat on Friday.
Invited to bat first, PTI failed to post a significant total on the board, folding up for a paltry 111 in the 20th over. Muhammed Sajjad Ali (24) and Sultan Ahmed were its only notable scorers. Baadal bowled beautifully, bagging 4 for 26 while Munis Ansari picked up two wickets.
Muscat opener Jatinder made sure PTI bowlers wouldn’t make hay while the sun shone, leading the way with a solid 66 not out off 58 balls to steer his side to a well-deserved win as Muscat scored 113 for 5 in the 19th over.
Brief scores: PTI 111 all out in 19.3 overs (Muhammad Sajjad Ali 24 – 2x6, Sultan Ahmed 24 – 1x4, Zeeshan Siddiqui 19 – 3x4, Baadal Singh 4-26, Munis Ansari 2-20) lost to Muscat CT 113 for 5 in 18.4 overs (Jatinder Singh 66 not out – 7x4, Rajeshkumar Ranpura 15 – 3x4. Ahmed Fayyaz Butt 2-25) by 5 wickets.
IT Works win
Veteran Khalid Rasheed claimed five wickets for 48 while Ihtesham Muhammed bagged four for 18 to help IT Works to a comfortable 57-run victory against OCT Muscat in an A Division game at OC Turf 2.
Batting first, IT Works was dismissed for 166 in the 37th over, Adil Khan topscoring with a run-a-ball 52. Ali Akbar and Zubair Akbar took three wickets each.
OCT Muscat failed to rise to the occasion despite facing a modest target, falling to the guiles of wily Khalid and Ihtesham for only 109 in the 25th over. Shoaib Ismail top scored with a strokeful 32.

Khalid Rasheed 5-48, Ihtesham Muhammed 4-18) by 57 runs.
Irfan stars for Attic Outdoors
A magnificent 80 off only 41 balls by Hafiz Irfan was the highlight of Attic Outdoors’ emphatic 52-run win over Qurum Business Group (QBG) in a C Division match at Muscat Municipality ground 1.
Irfan batted brilliantly to lift Attic Outdoors to a solid total of 177 for 8 in 20 overs. Madhur Bhatnagar and Shakeel Khan were its other main scorers with 31 and 25 respectively. Sujith Kumar bagged three wickets.
QBG found the going tough, folding up for 125 in the 18th over, Mohammed Haque (34) and Suseendran (32) being its major contributors.
Brief scores: Attic Outdoors 177 for 8 in 20 overs (Hafiz Irfan 80 – 15x4, 1x6, Madhur Bhatnagar 31 – 3x4, Shakeel Khan 25 – 2x4. Sujith Kumar 3-29, Sreeraj Kurup 2-25) beat QBG 125 all out in 17.5 overs (Mohammed Haque 34 – 5x4, Suseendran 32 – 4x4, Ansal Ali 26, 3x4. Biplab Kumar 2-08, Rooswin Anto 2-27) by 52 runs.
Big win for Ideal
An amazing 180-run partnership between opener Akbar Shaikh (74 not out) and one drop Saud Haroon (75 not out) propelled Ideal International to a huge 9-wicket victory against OCT Maabela in a high-scoring E Division game at Muscat Municipality ground 2.
OCT Maabela scored a sizeable 180 for 5 thanks to handsome scores by Shabeeb Al Balushi (51) and Shareef Al Balushi (46) but Ideal chased this down in only the 15th over, scoring 181 for 1. Saud and Akbar batted superbly to steer their side to an exciting win.
