Muscat: The first package of the Omani pavilion project at Expo 2020 Dubai was signed on Wednesday by Mohsin Bin Khamis Al Balushi, Advisor to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Commissioner General of Oman at Expo 2020 Dubai, with Innovation Factory for Scientific Research and Development Company at the company's headquarters in Knowledge Oasis Muscat (KOM).
Signing the agreement on behalf of the company was Firas Bin Khamis Bin Ahmed Al Balushi, Chief Executive Officer of the company, in the presence of Dr. Ali Bin Masoud Bin Ali Al Sunaidy, Minister of Commerce and Industry, and Member of the Main Ministerial Committee concerned with discussing the Sultanate's preparations for Expo 2020 Dubai.
The first package of the project includes services related to the Omani National pavilion, such as the preliminary design, development, production and supervision of the content; proposal and installation of the pavilion with state-of-the-art and appropriate multimedia and technology to translate and highlight the content of the story of the pavilion; preparation of tender documents for the construction (second package), evaluation and analysis of bids; supervision of the construction, furnishing and equipping of the pavilion, and then decommissioning, removal and disposal of the materials and the waste, in addition to the full management of the project.
The aim and directions of the Main Ministerial Committee concerned with discussing the Sultanate's preparations for Expo 2020 Dubai were chaired by His Highness Sayyid Haitham Bin Tariq Al Said, Minister of Heritage and Culture.
At the meeting, it was decided to give young Omani entrepreneurs and owners of specialised small and medium enterprises (SMEs) a chance to be part of such an international event so as to allow them to acquire knowledge and experience in quality work and services, Al Balushi said.
The pavilion will also offer a number of SMEs and craftsmen an opportunity to offer their products and services to visitors at the pavilion during the 173-day duration of the Expo.
Innovation Factory for Scientific Research and Development Company is a small and medium enterprise that contributes to encouraging inventors and innovators to implement their innovations using advanced technologies, ranked first in the Entrepreneurship Awards as the best small enterprise in 2017.
The main theme of Expo 2020 Dubai is “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future," and the three sub-themes will be on "Opportunity, Mobility, Sustainability".
The Sultanate's pavilion at the Expo will be titled "Oman — Opportunities over Time", where it will be linked to the main theme of the Expo and its sub-themes. The pavilion will embody the most important achievements of civilizational and human development achieved by the Sultanate, in addition to highlighting the future achievements and aspirations of the Sultanate in those subjects and areas.
Hassan Bin Mohammed Bin Ali Al Lawati, Advisor to the Minister of Heritage and Culture for Heritage Affairs, Deputy Commissioner-General of the Sultanate Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, said that Omani participation in this event will be distinct and different from its previous participation.
All the work of the pavilion such as the architectural and technical design and special works will be carried out in Oman by local Omani SMEs, plus a group of local experienced consultants. The company will also sign a series of agreements with a number of small and medium-sized Omani companies in the next phase to provide various technical and creative works required to be developed under this project.
The Omani pavilion's architectural design is inspired from the frankincense tree and its historical link with human beings and Omani heritage.
He pointed out that the building represents and embodies the frankincense tree. It stands on a central trunk where the visitor experience begins. Inside the display areas, the exterior façade of the pavilion is similar in design to the branches of the frankincense tree in its ripples.
The idea of the pavilion's exterior design is combined in a contemporary, virtual way with the inner content centered around frankincense, where the main theme of the story of the pavilion is that the frankincense tree has historically acquired an enormous presence that made it a bridge of communication between the civilizations of the ancient world more than 5,000 years ago.
Commercial caravans for frankincense travelled on different routes and that corresponds exactly and absolutely with the main theme of Expo 2020 Dubai.
The Sultanate will participate in this important international event alongside 190 countries and regional and international organisations, which will be held from October 20, 2020 to April 10, 2021.
