Cricket: Karthik, Nayaz steer Ernst and Young to easy win

MUSCAT: A 165-run third-wicket partnership between Krishnan Karthik (85) and Mohammed Nayaz (80 not out) steered Ernst and Young to an easy 5-wicket win over Al Mardhuf in a B Division clash at Muscat Municipality ground 1 in Amerat on Friday.
Invited to bat first, Al Mardhuf scored 228 for 8 in 30 overs thanks to major contributions from Shantilan Shivji (82), Rahul Kerai (55 not out) and Noushad Ismail (37). Pankaj Gupta and Rana Zeeshan claimed three and two wickets respectively.
Having lost its openers at 37, E&Y was buoyed by the match-winning partnership between Karthik and Nayaz who were instrumental in their side securing a vital win in the 28th over for the loss of 5 wickets. Shoaib Ismail and Shantilan took two wickets each.

Al Fairuz win
Prokash Chowdry’s 25-ball 44 was the highlight of Al Fairuz’s exciting 2-wicket victory against OCT Al Hail in a C Division game at Muscat Municipality ground 2.
OCT Al Hail posted 136 for 8 on the board, Fariz Al Zadjali topscoring with 30 and Abdul Ghani chipping in with 24. Al Fairuz surpassed the target in the 19th over, scoring 140 for 8 thanks to its main scorers Prokash and Manikandhan Sundaran (40 not out). Waleed Rahim captaured three wickets.

Iqbal stars for Zubair
An amazing 7-wicket spell by Iqball Mudassar powered Zubair CT to a comfortable 6-wicket win against Aptus in a D Division game at Muscat Municipality ground 3.
Cruising at 51 for 1 in the 8th over, Aptus was rocked by Iqbal who ran through its batting line-up in no time. Aptus was finally dismissed for 76 in the 15th over. Only Soorak Raj (25) and Vijesh Latha (20) made any notable scores.
Zubair raced to the target in the 10th over, scoring 77 for 4. Sunil Kumar batted well to remain unbeaten on 26.

Big win for NBO
Veteran batsman Syed Arfan Ali (69 off 58) and left-arm spinner Zaheer Abbas (4 for 13) were the stars of NBO’s huge 75-run victory against Douglas OHI in another D Division match at Muscat Municipality ground 4.
NBO scored 157 for 6 in 20 overs with Arfan and Ramesh Viswanathan (22) making notable contributions and then bundled out OHI for a paltry 82 in the 14th over thanks to brilliant bowling by zaheer and Sadik Khan who picked up two wickets. Nadeem Ahmed topscored for OHI with 29 off 19.
Brief scores: NBO 157 for 6 in 20 overs (Syed Arfan Ali 68 – 6x4, 1x6, Ramesh Viswanathan 22 – 2x4. Nadeem Ahmed 2-26, Abhishek Rai 2-26) thrashed Doughlas OHI 82 all out in 13.1 overs (Nadeem Ahmed 29 – 4x4, 1x6. Zaheer Abbas 4-13, Sadik Khan 2-12) by 75 runs.
