​Oman’s consumer watchdog helps recover close to OMR30,000 in one year

Muscat: The Public Authority for Consumer Protection (PACP) has helped recover over OMR28,000 in one year, authorities have said.

Officials revealed that in 2018, PACP in Al Rustaq Governorate managed to recover OMR 14,345 for consumers in addition to imposing fines amounting to OMR 14,185.

A total of OMR3,243 was recovered from the construction sector, while OMR3,200 was recovered from the labour services sector. The remaining OMR 7,902 was recovered from settlements from sectors such as carpentry, car repair workshops, electronics. Furniture and travel services.

OMR 14,185 was collected as fines for violations which included selling expired goods, selling goods for a price different from the actual price, as well as raising the price of goods and services without the approval of the authority.
