Car salesman fined OMR10,000 for selling defective vehicle

Muscat: A worker at a car showroom was fined OMR 10,000 for selling a defective vehicle in Dhofar, the public authority for consumer protection has revealed.
The preliminary court in Salalah issued a judgement against a defendant working in a car agency.
According to officials, the case began when the department of consumer protection received a complaint about the purchase of a 2016 vehicle from an auto dealership. The consumer revealed that when he used the vehicle, he discovered a shortage of engine oil. After two days, the complainant heard an unusual sound from the engine and the vehicle continued to malfunction.
In light of this, the consumer filed a complaint after which the department inspected the vehicle. The technical expert found an internal oil leak in one of the engine cylinders, which was a violation of Article 25 of the Consumer Protection Law No. 66/2014.
The defendant was convicted and fined OMR 10,000. Additionally, he was ordered to repair the vehicle and deliver it to the complainant free of charge.
