Video: New City Centre mall opens in Oman

Muscat: The much-awaited shopping destination, City Centre, Sohar officially opened yesterday.
Located on the Batinah Highway, this is the fourth shopping and leisure destination in Oman of Majid Al Futtaim, the leading shopping mall, communities, retail and leisure pioneers across the Middle East, Africa, and Asia.
With an investment of OMR45 million, the mall has 129 retail outlets including a nine-screen movie theatre, kids play area, varied dining options from cafes to family restaurants, and over 1,000 parking spaces for visitors.
The mall is aimed at providing exciting entertainment and leisure experiences to both residents and citizens of the burgeoning port city and industrial hub, Sohar, as well as surrounding districts such as Liwa and Shinas.
Speaking at the inauguration of the mall, the Senior Mall Manager for Oman said that they are pleased to introduce the brand to Sohar.
“We are pleased to introduce our renowned City Centre brand to Sohar, providing a single contemporary destination for residents and tourists to enjoy a curated mix of international and regional retail outlets, outstanding leisure activities, and unique dining experiences,” said Husam Al Mandhari, Senior Mall Manager – Oman – Shopping Malls at Majid Al Futtaim - Properties.
He added, “Majid Al Futtaim is committed to delivering an unrivalled retail and lifestyle experience to growing cities in Oman, and the opening of City Centre Sohar achieves a major milestone in our investment strategy for the Sultanate.”
The newly inaugurated mall in Sohar is a fully integrated retail, dining, and leisure destination that is a new social hub for people to meet and connect. It has also added 35,301 sqm of gross leasable area to the Sultanate’s booming retail sector.
Moreover, the shopping destination has set a target to achieve the LEED Gold status – the coveted energy-efficient design certification – within three months of opening, which is the minimum requirement to collate operational data.
This includes implementing sustainable building best practices with enhanced insulation, irrigation by condensation, LED lighting and solar panels that will contribute to the centre’s energy requirements.
