Muscat: Uzbekistan's Otabek Shukurov praised Oman's quality after his country defeated the Red Warriors in their first AFC Asian Cup game.
In an interview, the midfielder said, "It was a very hard game for us, and we are very glad to have started with a win. I knew the quality we were always going to have to face. I have played against several Arab teams and they always have quality.
"I am glad we have managed to make our fans happy tonight."
It was a special occasion for Shukurov, who plays club football for Sharjah F.C.
"It was a special feeling for me to play my first AFC Asian Cup match in an Uzbek shirt at the homeground of my club Sharjah FC. I would like to thank all the Sharjah fans who showed up today and supported me.
"Looking forward, the next two games willbe difficult as well. Be it Turkmenistan or Japan we have to prepare for each game the same way."
