Muscat: The Royal Oman Police (ROP) marks its Annual Day on January 5 of every year. Looking back at its accomplishments over the past years, the ROP has continued to support growth and provide a security umbrella to all citizens and residents.
To mark the occasion, Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser Al Bakri, Minister of Manpower will preside over a ceremony at the Military Parade Ground of Sultan Qaboos Academy for Police Sciences in the Wilayat of Nizwa today.
The event will also mark the graduation of officers in the presence of a number of ministers, advisors, commandants of SAF Corps, Royal Oman Police and the security apparatuses, undersecretaries , officials from the government departments, sheikhs , dignitaries and parents of graduates.
Last year’s Global Competitiveness Report ranked the Sultanate fifth globally, and first among the Arab world, for the reliability of its police services.
Additionally, Oman was also ranked eighth in the world and the first in the Arab world in the road quality index. The ROP has also continued its efforts to reduce the number of accidents,
In terms of awards, the ROP won the Best Application Award for Smart Devices in the Government sector in the Sultan Qaboos Award for Excellence in e-Government Services for 2018.
It launched its application for smart devices in 2013. The application provided several services such as an interactive map, as well as providing information about police services, access roads and working hours of service centres, as well as a directory of police numbers and stations throughout the Sultanate.
The application also allows users to verify the status of their visa application and the steps that he/she must follow to clear the transaction, in addition to the direct payment of fines, payment of technical inspection fees and renewal of vehicles.
Throughout the year, the ROP, in coordination with various other departments, has worked hard to monitor the coasts in order to combat smuggling and infiltration attempts.
As a result, the Coast Guard Police Command has been upgraded with modern search and rescue boats. Fishermen also play a significant role in assisting the Coast Guard Police. The project of constructing a new building of the Coast Guard Police Command, which is being implemented in Sudab in Muscat, is considered “one of the most important projects to develop the work of the Coast Guard in the Sultanate”.
