Expat arrested for using counterfeit currency in Oman

Muscat: An expat has been arrested for using counterfeit currency of another Gulf country, the Royal Oman Police (ROP) has said.

The Al Buraimi governorate police revealed that the expat has admitted to the crime. The accused explained that the money was forged in the country where he got the currency from. He also added that the counterfeit currency was bought from another person, and was used for shopping in Oman.

Royal Oman Police said in a statement: "The search and investigation efforts resulted in the arrest of a person of Asian nationality who [was] promoting counterfeit currency.

"Legal proceedings have been taken against the accused," the police added.

The Royal Oman Police calls on citizens and residents to be careful in dealing with various currencies, especially foreign ones. They also stressed on the importance of immediately reporting such incidents to the police.
