More than 64,000 certificates of origin issued in Oman last year

Muscat: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) said that the number of certificates of origin issued for local products exported to the GCC and Arab countries in 2018 was 64,593, compared with 14,014 in the year 2017.
Talal Bin Hammoud Al Baloushi, Head of Commercial Licencing Department, MoCI, said: "Among the certificates issued last year, there were 63,119 certificates of origin for local products exported to the Gulf countries and 1,474 certificates for local products exported to the Arab countries."
"He said that there was an increase in the number of certificates of origin issued in 2018, due to the introduction of the service on the 'Invest Easy' portal. This has made it easy for investors, factories and Omani companies to export their products to various countries. It has also saved the time and efforts of local and foreign investors," he added.
He said: "The certificate of origin is generally referred to several types of certificates. The certificates of the Gulf include certificates issued to products which are known to be products of Omani origin to prove their exact origin, and offer the exporter certain facilities and preferences, including the exemption of customs duties on the export of national products and services in countries where there are bilateral agreements."
Al Baloushi said that the advantage of these certificates of origin include speedy procedures and nominal customs duties on goods. Small and medium enterprises, which want to market their products in various countries, as well as producing families and craftspersons can also take advantage of these certificates.
