Traditional clothing, jewellery showcase Oman’s rich cultural heritage

Muscat: In commemoration of 48th National Day, two young Omani girls, Amira and Wardah, took a bunch of pictures showcasing traditional Omani clothing.
Oman has a very rich and distinctive tradition when it comes to jewellery and clothing, which distinguish one governorate from the other.
The pictures depict the attire for the men and women of South Sharqiyah governorate and are made by hand. The women’s clothing includes jewellery such as necklaces, bracelets (Banjiri), rings, earrings, and Shamber.

The clothes have various parts such as the dishdasha, the Sirwal [made of striped Suri silk textiles and with embroidery on the ankle cuffs], the Ghabah [a fine black mesh covering worn over the dishdasha], and the scarf.
The South Sharqiyah dishdasha is also characterised by its embroidered work until the mid-calf as a trademark and a special hat for children to protect their ears from the wind.
