Ukraine declares martial law after Russia attack

Kiev: Ukraine declared on Monday the martial law along the borders with Russia after a sudden escalation of tension with Russia and the detention of three Ukrainian ships.
The Ukrainian decision, which has not been taken since the independence of the Soviet Republic in 1991, came after MPs voted in favour of the measure, which would allow the authorities over a month to mobilize their citizens, organize the media and reduce public gatherings.
Kiev and Moscow face their worst crisis in years after Russian forces seized three Ukrainian ships on Sunday after being accused of illegally entering Russian waters off the Crimean coast in the Azov Sea.
