Oman’s consumer watchdog recalls defective baby shoes

Muscat: Oman’s Public Authority of Consumer Protection (PACP) has recalled babies’ shoes from a leading brand in the Sultanate, after many pieces were found to be defective.
According to officials, the shoes sold by the brand Mamas & Papas were found to have defective tassels and pom-poms which detached from the shoes after a while. PACP is concerned that this could prove to be a choking hazard that could lead to death if ingested by babies.
57 pairs of three varieties of shoes that were sold between July 2017 and October 2018 – featuring product codes S912300, S912CN7 and S912GE9 – have been recalled. These include a white and cream model with white tassels, a brown one with matching pom-poms, and a padded gold version with tassels.
“Unfortunately, it has come to our attention that the above products do not meet our rigorous quality and safety standards,” said an official at PACP. “The tassel or pom-poms could become loose and get detached, this could present a potential choking hazard to young children.
A spokesperson from the store Mamas & Papas said, “As the shoes don’t meet our strict safety standards, we have taken the decision to recall these products and request that you return the shoes to us, immediately, for a full refund. We understand this is disappointing and advise that if you have any further questions or concerns, to please call our Customer Service Team on 80074303.”
