Cricket: Al Mardhuf register easy win against MCCC

MUSCAT: Vijay M captured four wickets while Mohammed Nadeem slammed an unbeaten 86 to power Al Mardhuf to a comfortable 8-wicket win over MCCC New in a B Division match at Muscat Municipality ground 1 in Amerat on Friday.
Batting first, MCCC New was restricted to 153 for 9 in 30 overs. Swastik Sundara topscored with 50 while Sai Surya contributed 30. Vijay claimed 4 for 28 while Mohammed Nadeem took 2 for 24.
Al Mardhuf raced to the modest target in the 18th over, scoring 157 for 2 thanks to Nadeem’s brilliant batting. Shuaib Ismail batted well too, scoring a fluent 53.

Al Fairuz thrashed Qurum Business Group (QBG) by 8 wickets thanks to Dharvesh Asath’s magnificent 90 off 54 balls in a C Division afternoon clash at the same venue.
QBG amassed 186 for 8 in 20 overs, Ansal Ali leading the way with a solid 54 and Suseendran S. making fluent 38. Peter Antony and Senthil Raja picked up two wickets each.
AL Fairuz chased down the big total with four balls to spare, scoring 190 for 2. Apart from Dharvesh, opener Satham Hussain was the other main scorer with 56 off 43. Muthumurugan bagged 2 for 34.

Wasim shines for NBO
Mohammed Wasim Khatri and Shahid Mughal were the heroes of National bank of Oman’s (NBO) 66-run victory against Aptus CT in a D Division game at Muscat Municipality ground 2.
NBO piled up 205 for 9 in 20 overs thanks to Wasim’s 58 and Ramesh Viswanathan’s 42. Harish Mohan claimed 4 for 25.
Failing to pose any serious threat Aptus folded up for only 139 in the 18th over. Biji Sundar (34) and Suraj Raj (30) were the only notable scorers. Shahid bagged 3 for 23 while Mustansar Hussain took 2 for 14.

Bank Muscat win
Younis Rahim, Yousuf Al Balushi Mohsin Nazir played vital roles in Bank Muscat’s exciting 25-run win over Zubair CT in another D Division clash at the same venue.
Batting first, Bank Muscat scored 174 for 4 in 20 overs thanks to Younis’s fluent 57 and Yousuf’s hard-hitting 30 off 17. Iqbal Mudassar took 2 for 26.
Mohsin picked up three quick wickets reducing Zubair CT to 98 for 5 from 71 for 1 to derail its chase. Zuabir never really recovered from the setback and finished 25 runs short before it lost its last wicket at 149 in 19 overs. Amjed (56) and Adnam Mehboob (24) were the main scorers. Mohsin claimed 3 for 24 while Yousuf took 2 for 24.

Al Mada win
Jaleel Mahamood’s brilliant all-round show and Shahil Mohammed’s superb 87 off 54 powered Al Mada Engineering to a one-sided 207-run victory in a B Division mismatch at Muscat Municipality ground 1 on Friday.
Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Al Mada amassed a massive 281 for 9 in the stipulated 30 overs thanks to vital knocks from Shahil, Jaleel (45) and Shaheer Najeeb (45). Riyadh Qadir and Nasser Haider bagged three and two wickets respectively.
Facing a huge target, OCT Amerat crumbled like a pack of cards, scoring a paltry 74 all out in 17.1 overs. Only Najeeb Al Balushi offered some resistance to brilliant bowling by Al Mada, scoring 26 off 28. Jaleel was outstanding with the ball, picking up 4 for 22 while Shameer Kariadan claimed 3 for 13.

PDO win
PDO’s most prolific match-winner Abdul Naveed helped his team to yet another victory, this time against SAS Partners who lost the C Division game by 43 runs.
Invited to bat first, PDO scored 150 for 7 in 20 overs thanks to Naveed’s 34-ball 43 and Rajesh Khetani’s 33 off 30. Shankar Gayathri bowled well to claim 3 for 27.
Failing to rise to the occasion, SAS & Partners could manage only 107 for 9 in 20 overs, falling short by 43 runs. Shankar Gayathri topscored with 33 off 35. Abdul Naveed, Sajid Nisar, Sajid Ali and Zakir Khan took two wickets each.

Usman Asghar was the hero of Orient Travel’s exciting 4-wicket win over Bank Muscat in a D Division clash at Muscat Municipality ground 3.
Bank Muscat batted first, scoring 146 for 8 in 20 overs, Sarmad Mehmood topscoring with an unbeaten 43 off 33. Opener Mohsin Nazir contributed a fluent 27 off 20 balls. Shoab Mohammed and Usman Asghar bagged two wickets each.
Orient Travels raced to the target in the 17th over, scoring 150 for 6 thanks to Usman’s strokeful 43 not out off 20 balls. Majid Rafique batted well too for his 22 off 14. Yousuf Al Balushi took 2 for 24.
