Filipino community to hold meeting

Muscat: The Filipino Community Social Club Oman (FILCOSOC) will hold its annual General Assembly (GA) meeting on January 25, the club recently announced.
Speaking to the Times of Oman, Edgardo Lora, Chairman of FILCOSOC, said, “FILCOSOC will hold its GA meeting on January 25 at Dunes Hotel Bausher from 9am onwards. The GA will discuss the 2018 annual financial statement, membership benefits, 2019 projects, the launching of branches and a review of the constitution and bylaws.”
“We would like to invite all the members of the club and the Filipino expat community in Oman to join us for this highly important event,” added Lora.
About the importance of the club, Lora explained, “We provide a number of important services to our members. These include OMR50 in financial aid for members who are not able to work for more than a month due to illness, retrenchment and/or pending labour cases.”
“Additionally, we provide discounts on selected medical services at hospitals that have tied up with FILCOSOC, as well as discounted comprehensive medical and life insurance at companies tied to FILCOSOC.”
FILCOSOC is the only Filipino organisation registered in the Sultanate by the Ministry of Social Development. The organisation focuses on conducting cultural, social and educational training programmes, in addition to sports activities as per Ministerial Decree 14/2000. Many are looking forward to the GA, including Filipino expat Alberto, who told the Times of Oman, “One of the many things I like about the club is how approachable it is.”
The members are always nice and welcoming. They also organise a lot of good activities for kids at the Filipino School in Muscat. They are very involved in reaching out and conducting activities such as blood donations. I am not a member yet but I may register soon.”
