Duqm Airport to bolster civil aviation in Oman: Al Futaisi

Muscat: The new Duqm Airport will provide a boost to the Sultanate's aviation industry, the Minister of Transport and Communications Dr. Ahmed Al Futaisi said.
Speaking at the airport's official opening in the Special Economic Zone At Duqm (SEZAD), the minister stated, "Duqm Airport is an air gateway that bolsters the civil aviation industry in Oman, which without a double, will enable such an industry, with its horizon broadening potential, the accommodate the ever growing flow of travellers to the promising SEZAD Duqm."
The new air hub is being inaugurated under the patronage of Sayyid Hamoud bin Faisal Al Busaidi, Minister of Interior.
The airport occupies a total area of 27,386 square metres and has an estimated capacity of half a million passengers a year with the potential to expand to 2 million passengers a year.
The airport includes a passenger building with an area of 9,614 square metres.
It also includes an air navigation complex, a 38-metre air control tower, an air cargo terminal with an area of 9958 square metres, a capacity of 25,000 tonnes per year, 4 km length and 75 metres wide runway, with connecting lanes and parking area for four aircraft, including the Airbus A380, as well as other facilities.
