Football: Oman set to make amends against Japan in Asian Cup

MUSCAT: Oman is all set to face off against Japan today, at Zayed Sports City Stadium in Abu Dhabi in their second match of the 2019 Asian Football Cup, which takes place in the UAE.
Oman coach Pim Verbeek, said after his team's last match against Uzbekistan, "The result the match was disappointing," and affirmed that "Japan are currently the toughest team to beat in Asia."
According to him, "Oman's match against Japan will be a high tension one "Oman needs to gain six points in the next two matches by correcting our mistakes before the coming match, while also focusing on defence and attack, as we had lost the final touch when we went up against Uzbekistan."
Oman will look to forget their 2-1 loss against Uzbekistan and defeat Japan, who are considered one of the teams that could very well end with the cup. The technical team hopes to achieve this by correcting the mistakes players suffered from in the earlier match, including weaknesses in the team's defence and individual errors. Furthermore, Veerbek's choice for the team's formation is expected to change after the appearance of individual errors and exhaustion showing on Omani players' faces.
This match is considered the last chance for the Sultanate to make it to the second stage of the competition before squaring off against Turkmenistan, who Oman must beat in order to become eligible for a third spot in Group F.
