Opex 2018 in Kenya evokes encouraging response

Muscat: The Omani Products Exhibition (Opex 2018) will conclude on Thursday at Kenyatta International Convention Centre in Nairobi, Kenya.
The four-day exhibition offered a platform to explore potential opportunities to boost business relations between the Sultanate and Kenya.
The event has successfully attracted Kenyan businessmen and investors who became familiarised with a variety of Omani products. B2B meetings took place on the sidelines of the exhibition between the Omani businessmen and their Kenyan counterparts to highlight investment opportunities and discuss ways to strengthen partnerships and business cooperation.
New Markets
Omar Muqaibal, Director General of Marketing and Media at the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (PEIE), and a member of the Opex committee, stated that the promotional campaign that was organised prior to the event has played a great role in attracting significant numbers of visitors, including businessmen, investors and consumers from Kenya’s various cities.
“The visitors became acquainted with a lineup of featured Omani products at the expo,” Muqaibal said, adding, “The exhibition also offers a great opportunity to raise awareness about the investment opportunities available in the industrial estates that fall under the umbrella of PEIE. PEIE officials have highlighted the recently announced new incentives offered by PEIE in order to attract major investments to the Sultanate.”
Further, Saif Al Ma’amari, Ithraa’s Director of Export Facilitation Department and a member of the Opex committee, noted that Omani products are enjoying great popularity in foreign markets.
“In fact, Omani companies export to more than 135 countries. These exhibitions play a significant role in providing support for Omani companies to reach new markets, ink commercial and export deals, and find commercial agents to distribute their products in the target markets,” Al Ma’amari said.
Expanding in Africa
The participating companies praised the role played by the Opex Organising Committee through the efforts to explore new markets for Omani products.
The series of Opex events seeks to diversify the export channels for Omani products, boost export relations and increase the volume of exports by providing Omani exporters with the opportunity to introduce their products to new markets, and find commercial agents for distributing products in foreign markets.
Ali Al Sarmi, distribution manager at Al Nasr Group of Companies, pointed out that the company’s participation in the exhibition aims at expanding in the African market. “Al Nasr Group of Companies is one of the largest suppliers of Omani marble in the Middle East. The company is exporting to more than 40 countries worldwide and it aspires to further expand its export targets,” Al Sarmi added.
“This participation is a further boost to the Omani products and their spread in international markets. We are proud today to represent the Sultanate along with more than 80 companies in such international platforms. We should also hail the support received by our government represented by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and Opex committee which are undertaking constant efforts to raise awareness on the Omani products in international arenas,” commented Khalid Al Hosni, CEO of Titronic Middle East Company.
Zainab Al Shidi, marketing manager at Al Shumookh Plastic Products, emphasised that the participating companies have seen great interest from Kenyan business owners in Omani products and their high quality characteristics.
