​Ministry denies social media rumours about Zakat applications

Muscat: Oman's Ministry of Endowment and Religious Affairs denies rumors about it receiving Zakat applications for the needy and social security card holders.

According to MERA, a fake message being circulated online stated, "the Ministry of Awqaf represented by the Department of Zakat started receiving requests for Zakat for the needy and social security card holders in the ministry's office in Al Ghubra."

MERA said in a statement on Sunday: "The Zakat Department announces that the advertisement that has been circulated in social media is not correct . Therefore, we ask everyone to note this in order to avoid inconvenience that will be caused to people because of their concern to reach the ministry."

The ministry also said that it would announce the date of receiving the new Zakat applications through the website later, without having to personally visit their office.
