New OMR600,000 fish market opens in Oman

Muscat: At a cost of OMR600,000, the Ibri fish market opened its doors yesterday
The market was inaugurated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, in a ceremony attended by Sheikh Saif Al Shehhi, Dr. Hamed Al Aufi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, and other dignitaries.
The market is built on a land area of 3,000 square metres and a building area of 1,530 square metres. It is equipped with a modern central air-conditioning system and consists of 32 display tables and 16 tables used for cutting fish.
The market also contains six shops, as well as storage warehouses for fish and an ice production unit with a production capacity of five tonnes, which will contribute to raising the quality of fishery products sold in the wilayat.
With this, there are now 60 fish markets supervised by the ministry, with the ministry also supporting the opening of more than 650 other fish outlets and stores in the Sultanate
The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries also said that it is implementing a strategy for the development of the fish industry in the Sultanate. Its plans include building new fish markets with modern facilities in various governorates.
