Expats fined, jailed for making furniture with old wood

A number of expats have been jailed and fined by authorities for manufacturing furniture using old and used wood.

The Court of the First Instance in Barka has handed the first and second accused one-month jail-terms and fined them OMR20 each, while the third accused was fined OMR1,000.

"The first and second accused were sentenced to one month in jail each and fined OMR20 each for working for another employer and changing their place of residence without informing the competent authorities. The third accused was also fined OMR1,000 for illegal manufacturing.” - Public Authority for Consumer Protection

The accused will also be deported once they serve their jail sentence.
