Revenues of luxury hotels in Oman increase

Muscat: The total revenue of Omani hotels under the three-to-five-star category rose by 8.8 per cent to OMR117.5 million until the end of July 2018 from OMR108 million for the corresponding period of last year.
According to the latest monthly statistics released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), hotel occupancy rates also increased by 4.4 per cent to 57.2 per cent till the end of July 2018, against 54.8 per cent for the same period last year.
However, the total number of guests in Omani hotels in January-July period of 2018 declined by 5.3 per cent to 819,829 from 866,020 for the same period of 2017.
Among different nationalities, Europeans topped the list with maximum number of visitors at 297,677, which is a fall of 14.5 per cent over the same period of 2017. This was followed by Omani guests, which stood at 219,602, which is a decline by 5.8 per cent when compared to the same period of 2017.
In the case of American, Oceanian and African visitors, the numbers went up by 4.3 per cent, 22.8 per cent and 33.6 per cent to 31,302, 8,983 and 7,263 guests, respectively, during the seven-month period, the data released by NCSI showed.
Guests from other Arab countries fell by 4.3 per cent to 35,923 and those of other nationalities rose by 32.5 per cent to reach 14,408 until the end of the month of July 2018.
Omani hotels received 1.53 million guests and the hotels generated a total revenue of OMT194.664 million in 2017, the NCSI report added.
