Tropical storm off coast of Oman in 48 hours, warns PACA

Muscat: A tropical depression has formed near the Arabian Sea and is likely to develop into a storm within the next two days, according to a statement published by the Public Authority for Civil Aviation’s (PACA) MET department.
Posted on Saturday, the statement read, “National Multi Hazard Early Warning Centre’s weather analysis and charts observed the formation of a tropical depression southeast of the Arabian Sea on October 6, with maximum average wind speed around 17 to 27 knots (31-50km/hr).”
Additionally, the depression was expected to move west-northwest and become a tropical storm within the next 48 hours.
The depression is currently located at latitude 67.5E and longitude 11.7N, some 1,550km away from Oman’s coast, the MET department confirmed.
“And there will be no impact on the coastal areas of Oman during the next three days,” the authority’s statement concluded.
News that the storm will not have an impact on Oman’s coastline will come as a relief to residents, following a week of speculation after numerous reports predicting a tropical storm flooded social media.
